Snow Crash, a book written by Neal Stephenson and published in 1992, created the first fully-imagined description of an elaborate virtual world known “metaverse,” and indeed it coined that specific term. Although contemporary crowds might be familiar with Ready Player One, Snow Crash was first.
On February 27th, 2023, Sotheby’s will be auctioning memorabilia related to this seminal work. Two of the lots are original early stage manuscripts. Other lots include original artwork related to the novel in some way.
Even if you are not considering bidding, consider reading the novel, which is both highly entertaining and informative. The central character is named Hiro Protagonist… enuff said.
A word about Neal Stephenson: He must be an all-around genius. He was the first employee of Blue Origin, and yes, he is friends with Jeff Bezos. Though he no longer works at Blue Origin, he continues to plow ahead into almost any “futuristic” fields including VR and metaverse related activities.
