Mark Zuckerberg is having a party. Horizon Workrooms, the Facebook (sorry Meta) – version of the metaverse, hosted its first court hearing.
The two-hour event originated in Columbia, and was streamed live on YouTube. They used Oculus Quest 2 eyeglasses.
Everyone who attended the event had an avatar, including the judge. The avatars appear to have been intended to appear similar to reality.
Although it is unclear why this particular hearing needed to be done virtually, one could imagine the capacity to have a virtual hearing could be important in situations of disabilities, distance, or if there is a potential for violence.
Whether this becomes “the norm” in the future is debatable. This particular hearing appeared to run smoothly. Perhaps in the future the avatars could have more pizzazz, or fur, or weapons… creativity counts!
